Vision, Mission and Goals Statement
Adopted by the UIATF Board of Directors, February 11, 2012
VISION
The United Indians of All Tribes Foundation (UIATF) shall empower, preserve and sustain a strong sense of tribal identity, culture, tradition, health and wellbeing for all American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, First Nations and other North American Indigenous People (collectively, “Indigenous People”) living in and around the Puget Sound Region.
MISSION
UIATF shall champion, develop, and provide quality educational, cultural, social and socio-economic services that benefit all Indigenous People living in and around the Puget Sound Region, especially tribal families, elders and youth.
GOALS
To advance the UIATF’s Vision and Mission, it shall be the goals of the Foundation and its leadership, employees, volunteers and community family members to:
- Assist Indigenous People in satisfying and sustaining fundamental human needs, opportunities and rights such as housing, food, employment, education and health;
- Assist, improve and enhance educational, cultural, social and socio-economic services to Indigenous Peoples, families, elders and youth living in and around the Puget Sound Region;
- Provide comprehensive employment and poverty reduction services to Indigenous People living in and around the Puget Sound Region, including employment training, financial literacy and other services and strategies that enhance socio-economic opportunities and prosperity;
- Provide a culturally relevant, accessible, comforting and safe gathering place for American Indigenous People living in and around the Puget Sound Region – the Daybreak Star Center;
- Educate the broader non-tribal community regarding the histories, hopes, needs and cultural values of all Indigenous People;
- Establish and maintain strong connections with Pacific Northwest and Coast Salish Tribal and First Nation governments, and assist them in serving their off-reservation populations;
- Develop and maintain strong connections with urban agencies and organizations throughout Indian Country, as well as federal, state, local and private entities, in order to strengthen services to off-reservation tribal populations;
- Sustain and enhance the UIATF and Daybreak Star Center indefinitely through sound resource management and capacity development;
- Respect, honor, dignify and empower every person associated with the UIATF or the Daybreak Star Center, and not tolerate any disrespect or dishonor of any other person so associated; and
- Honor and fulfill the vision of Bernie Whitebear and his brothers and sisters who founded and empowered the UIATF and Daybreak Star Center.
