Curriculum
At UIATF Head Start we have several ways of looking at curriculum for our children and families.
We have a federal Head Start mandate that demands a recognized curriculum that has been validated by research and has a matching assessment tool; for that we use Galileo and Portage for the younger children. You will learn more about the curriculums this year during case conferences and from reports that we will do three times a year
We also want to be able to explore and be inspired by the values and traditions from our Native American families and community. We are embarking on a journey together to find the ways in which we can create a multi-cultural environment that reveals the richness and diversity of the Native American’s in urban Seattle.
We understand that much of what young children are working on are the relationships in their own family, and beginning to understand themselves as separate people. We do home visits before the children come to school to learn more about them and their social-emotional lives, and to support the transition from home to school.
We know that kids learn through doing and playing. Our classrooms and teaching will be set up for kids to explore materials, relationships and ideas. Teachers will facilitate kids as they play and do, they will observe them for each child’s individual strengths and needs, and plan for them to grow and learn.
We will dedicate this year, to exploring these big ideas in order to enrich our school. We invite you and need you to join us.
